Moorlands 3-2 St Philip's

Cup Match Moorlands 3-2 St Philip’s (2-1 at half time)

A tough match for St Philip’s took place yesterday evening at Moorlands as Autumn finally took hold. Defending resolutely, the team in blue were pegged back deep in their own half, yet showed admirable resistance, thanks to numerous last-block tackles by Luke, Reuben and Josh.  St Philip’s conceded on the 5-minute mark, yet were back in it straight away. A cross from Jasper was bundled in by Micah to draw level after the keeper had saved the initial effort. Just before the break and Moorlands led for a second time: a long-range shot evading the reach of Lucious, playing in goal for the first time.

St Philip’s had their chances in the second half and strung together some neat passes, with Jasper, Micah and Josh all involved.  But it was Moorlands who extended their lead, when moving in from the right they struck low at the near post. With time running out, the ‘Bens’ formed a temporary defence, allowing Josh to move forward. A lovely crisp shot reduced the deficit to one, but it was not enough to alter the result.
