Today in Hawk Class we made hot chocolate Mayan-style as part of our learning about the Ancient Mayan civilisation that is now drawing to a close.  Using cacao nibs (as close as we could get to cacao beans), we mixed them with hot water and added the kind of flavourings used by the Ancient Mayans such as vanilla, cinammon, honey and even chilli!   Without the milk and sugar in the hot chocolate that we are used to these days, not many children loved the rather bitter taste but everyone got stuck in and lots managed to drink a whole cup full!
