Curriculum Intent Statement - ART

At St Philip’s School, we appreciate art as a vital part of a child’s education. Art creates opportunities for children to be exposed to new techniques and extend skills, as well as creating a platform for self-expression, opportunity for invention and, for many children, a chance to nourish wellbeing. 

We inspire and engage our children though the introduction of a diverse mixture of artists from different periods of time. This promotes an awareness of how art has reflected and shaped our history.

Children are encouraged to become critical thinkers and their individual opinions are celebrated. We expand children’s cultural capital by taking them on trips to local art galleries and exhibitions. We create opportunities for the children to exhibit and share their work, both around the school and within local art galleries.
