Curriculum Overview

School Curriculum Intent Statement

At St Philip’s Church of England Primary School every child is recognised as an individual uniquely created and loved by God. We welcome and celebrate all within our school community.

Our Intent is to deliver a curriculum which is accessible to all and that will maximise the development of every child’s ability and academic achievement. We have identified three key intentions that drive our curriculum:

To build a curriculum, with reading at its core, which develops learning and results in the acquisition of appropriate subject knowledge, skills and understanding as set out in the National Curriculum. Children will have a broad and balanced experience which ignites their love of learning and develops positive learning behaviours so that they know more, remember more and understand more.

To design a curriculum which encourages the key learning skills of collaboration, independence, resilience, communication, leadership and enthusiasm.

To build a curriculum which ensures children develop good character traits and are ‘Life Ready’; a curriculum which results in children acquiring crucial life-skills, and the positive moral values of forgiveness, kindness, love, hope, perseverance, respect and honesty. With these, children are able to meaningfully contribute to -and interact in- their communities.

Or teaching is based on the National Curriculum; which we have mapped out below showing how we intend to cover all the areas. Due to mixed age groups we have a 2 year curriculum cycle in Key Stage 1 and a 4 year cycle in Key Stage 2.
