Vision & Values

The conviction at the heart of our vision is that all who are part of our school community formed around our vision will discover an education that embraces excellence and academic rigour within the wider framework of spiritual, physical, intellectual, emotional, moral and social development and enables us all to flourish.

Vision Statement

Our vision is to be an exceptional school committed to teaching and learning; working in partnership with families to provide a caring, stimulating environment rooted in Christian values. Our high expectations enable all to flourish; all are valued and nurtured as unique individuals loved by God.

Reference to John 10:10 … I have come that you might have life – life in all its fullness.

'Life in all its fullness'

We chose this strap-line from John 10:10  where Jesus said '... I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full.' because it encapsulates what we want for all in our community - to live life to the full.  We believe that the Christian ethos which permeates our school, leads to trusting relationships, productive classrooms and a happy community.

Original Trust Deed of 1846 (Handwritten)

Original Trust Deed Transliterated

Key extracts from the Deed written in 1847:

...schools at Odd Down for the education of the children of the poor in the principles of the United Church of England .....

... for the instruction and education of poor children of both sexes resident in the aforesaid parish of Lyncombe and Widcombe in the borough of Bath or in any of the adjacent parishes ......in the principles of the United Church of England and Ireland as at the present time by law established and as contained and expressed in the liturgy articles and other formularies of the said church and in reading writing casting accounts (numerate; capable of arithmetic) and in the case of girls needlework and other proper and needful useful common learning for poor children....

We are pleased to note that our curriculum in the 21st century is much broader than reading, writing and casting accounts and needlework.
