I’ve heard the name before, but who are you?

St Philip's After School Club is an OFSTED registered play scheme for pupils of St. Philip's School. We offer a great place for your youngsters to come once the school day is over.

What happens there?

Well... your kids have fun! They get to choose from a fabulous range of activities, some of which are structured and led by the staff and some are more free form. They include things such as drawing, painting, stories, reading, football, music, role playing, cooking, and for those who want quiet time, there’s space for that too. There’s also a TV and a PlayStation available for use. It’s not only fun either... it’s good for children to interact and play with other children from different age groups too!

Other exciting things that we’ve done include a Drama Project, working with the Museum of Bath at Work, to produce a series of short films that depict life in the Odd Down area in the past. These were shown to the whole school and the stars of the films had their 15 minutes of fame.

We have also had students from different cultural clubs at the university visit us. These have been based around learning about different cultures and have included activities such as dance, cooking, origami, games, festivals etc. The children thoroughly enjoy these visits and come away with a greater understanding of others.

We also offer the children a snack and drinks during the afternoon.

When does all of this happen?

Every school day between 3:15 and 6:00pm. Our staff pick up the children from St. Philip's School at the end of the school day. They are then safely escorted / transported to the club premises where the fun begins. All you need to do is arrange for your child(ren) to be picked up by 6:00pm.

Where is it then?

Children are currently bussed to Moorlands School- A local venue.

Sounds good so far, but what else can you tell me?

Well, of course all the staff are qualified and the usual police checks are done. As well as the staff who look after the children, there is a committee of volunteers who manage the club. Not just anyone though, but parents of children who attend the club, so we make sure the kids get the best out of it! And being run by volunteers means we can keep the costs down to a bare minimum.

Costs, eh? How much then?

There’s a one off registration fee of £5 per family. Then you pay by the session [day], rates for the 2004/05 school year are [2005/06 likely to be the same]:

If you have one child at the club, it costs £7 per session. If you have more than one child at the club, it costs £7 per session for one child, and £6 for each of the other children at the same session.

And you don’t need me to tell you what superb value that is!

You can book regular sessions for your children at the club or they can come along as you feel like it, as long as there are places available and we get sufficient notice. We can have up to 16 children per session.

OK, I’m game, where do I sign?

Well, you see that box at the bottom, it has some contact details. If you are interested in your child(ren) getting something more out of those hours after school, get in touch!

You are welcome to come along to the club to see what we do before you make a decision, let your children come along for a few afternoons to see what they think.

As one of the children said:

“I love going to the After School Club,

it’s the best part of the day!”
